Andrei-Ștefan Lia
Andrei started his research career in the wet-lab, with his undergraduate and Master’s research experience focusing on Chronobiology. During his Master’s, he has also taken an interest in Bioinformatics, mostly working with RNA-seq data. For his PhD, his research focus has transitioned towards Neuroscience, specifically working on thermal nociceptive adaptation/habituation in C. elegans, where he developed hardware and bioinformatic tools for high-throughput thermal and optogenetic stimulation of worm populations, behavioural recording and analysis. Next, he spent 2 years working as a bioinformatician for QIAGEN, developing a wide array of analysis pipelines for clinical and pharmaceutical customers.
In the Balmus Lab, Andrei is interested in bioinformatics processing and analyses of data generated from various CRISPR experiments (CRISPR screens, base editor screens, CRISPRa/i, scCRISPR-seq), RNA-seq, scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, GSEA and multi-omics integration.
