Cătălin Coltău

During his studies, Cătălin was mainly interested in genetics, immunobiology and applying recombinant DNA technology in life sciences. His bachelor thesis was focused on the effects of simvastatin and DMXAA on the tumoral microenvironment. He began showing interest for neuroscience during his Master’s and decided to join Transylvanian Institute of Neuroscience as a data analyst volunteer. Since then, he has honed his dry-lab skills (in vivo electrical signals processing) as well as his wet-lab ones (working with mice, performing craniotomies).

In the Balmus Lab, Cătălin is interested in searching for the molecular mechanisms underlying Huntington’s disease, where he combines molecular biology and various biochemical assays with bioinformatics processing, data analysis and interpretation.
