Kaitlyn Wong

Kaitlyn is drawn to questions where the underlying mechanism remains unclear, a curiosity that has taken her from plant biology to neurodegeneration. At Indiana University in the United States, where she earned her BSc in Molecular Life Sciences, she studied the mechanisms of nectar secretion in plants. Her prior research has also spanned Huntington’s disease, endometriosis, Alzheimer’s disease and clinical research.

Now as an MPhil student in the Balmus Lab, she investigates whether expanded CAG repeats can directly drive cellular dysfunction in Huntington’s disease independently of mutant huntingtin protein. She plans to pursue an MD-PhD, with the goal of translating mechanistic discoveries into therapeutic advances.
